CNN/AP White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer to resign this summer, officials tell CNN. His replacement will likely be deputy press secretary Scott McLellan.

I have decided that my time has come to leave the White House

"I informed President Bush last week that after 21 years of doing nothing but government and politics ... that I have decided that my time has come to leave the White House. And I will leave later this summer, most likely in July," Fleischer said.

His replacement will likely be deputy press secretary Scott McLellan.

"I've decided my time has come to leave the White House," Fleischer said in a telephone interview.

Scott McLellan once dismissed Cynthia McKinney's comments:

"The American people know the facts, and they dismiss such ludicrous, baseless views," he said. "The fact that she questions the president's legitimacy shows a partisan mind-set beyond all reason."
