There will be a special meeting in Sacramento to commemorate the second anniversary of September 11th. It will convene on September 10th at 3:30PM and will conclude the following afternoon at 4:00PM. There will be two anniversary events at the Holiday Inn, Capitol Plaza in Sacramento. One will be a private memorial for family members and survivors, and the other a public anniversary memorial. Families are invited to attend both if they choose. The hotel address is 300 J Street, Sacramento, CA. The CA Victims Compensation Board will cover travel expenses for this event. The Connecticut Governor will be conducting a memorial service at the site of Connecticut’s Living Memorial at Sherwood Island State Park (Exit 18 off I-95N and S), marking two years since the tragic events of 9/11. The service will begin at 5:00PM and will feature a dedication of the Phase II construction components of the memorial, which includes the inscription of names of the victims associated with Connecticut.

A memorial ceremony will take place downtown at the Riverwalk behind the Municipal Building, on Eagle Street. The service will unveil a memorial made from a beam from the WTC, limestone from the Pentagon and rubble from the crash in PA. It will take place at 5:15PM and last approximately 30 minutes. The memorial is dedicated to all of those lost on September 11th, and there will be a special tribute to Dan Shanower, a former Naperville resident, who lost his life while working at the Pentagon. There will be a memorial service to commemorate and celebrate the lives of all Long Islanders who perished in the attacks of 9-11-01. It will be held at Farmingdale State University, 2350 Broadhollow Rd. (Rte. 110) Farmington, NY 11735, on the front lawn of Horton Hall at 2:00 PM.

There will be a vigil on the Boston Common to memorialize the victims of the 9/11 attacks. The event will begin with addresses by representatives of the three Abrahamic faiths, followed by music, including the Senior Choir of The First Church of Belmont Unitarian Universalist, the Choir of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Kristina Olsen and Jonathan Tynes of Peaceful Tomorrows. The gathering will be the gazebo at the center of the Common from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. 5,000 candles will be provided and the evening will be videotaped and covered by public radio and TV. This event will coincide with similar "Circle of Hope" events in 42 other cities nationwide and worldwide.

The Second Anniversary Commemoration of the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund will be held at the Ritz Carlton. The Program will be as follows:

The reception will start at 6:45 PM and the screening will start at 7:30 PM at The loft, 548 Broadway, 3rd Floor (between Prince St. and Spring St.). The film is the story of Gwen Loiacono, the creator of America’s first 9-11 Remembrance Flag. The documentary traces the flag from its creation to its journey from Wilmington, NC to families of the victims of 9-11. Interviews with victim family members, NYC firefighters and members of 9-11 support groups provide testimonials of the comfort the Remembrance Flag has provided, while at the same time relaying their own experiences dealing with the tragedy.

September 11th Families for a Peaceful Tomorrow is planning a candlelight procession for the evening and night of September 10th to commemorate and honor those lost on September 11th. It will be a silent candlelight procession and will not include speeches, signs or politics of any kind. The procession is open to everyone, not just family members and will begin at Union Square Park at approximately 7:30 PM (arrival at 7:00 is recommended). The procession will proceed to Ground Zero, where the participants will encircle the site and end by leaving the candles beneath the names. September Space in conjunction with Families of September 11, Inc. and supported by Tuesday’s Children are hosting a Luncheon for the Victim’s Family members on September 11th from 11:00-2:00 at September Space to view: The September 11th Remembrance Quilt. The quilt measures 23 feet in height and 37 feet in length and weighs approximately 90 pounds. In April and May of 2002, the quilt hung in the Arts and Industries building in the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. On September 11th , 2002, it was hung on the outside of our school building in memorial of the victims, this year the quilt will be displayed at September Space a volunteer community center helping those effected by the attacks of 9/11/01. The Good Shepard Church located in upper Manhattan on Isham Street will dedicate a Memorial Garden outside the church that includes a Steel Cross (steel from the WTC), a statue of the Good Shepard and a fountain. Inside the garden there will be 18 stones in honor of Inwood victims lost on September 11th. A Mass will also be held.

Corey Gammil, the organizer of the “United in Memory Quilt” has obtained Pier 94 (12th Avenue and 55th Street) for the showing of the entire quilt. This is a quilt that has a square for everyone lost on 9/11. The hours for viewing the quilt are between 9:00AM and 5:00PM. Art for Heart is holding an event for any children who lost a parent in the 1993 bombing or the 9-11-01 terrorist attack. September Commemoration at Historic Richmond Town: There will be a program of art and music offered by the Staten Island Historical Society, which operates Historic Richmond Town, a living history village and museum complex. The Historical Museum will be open with free admission from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. A string Ensemble from the Staten Island Chamber Music Players will perform from 2:00 – 4:30 PM. The exhibit ‘Indelible Memories: September 11 Memorial Tattoos’, photographed by Vinnie Amesse, will be open. The exhibit features 55 men and women who have memorialized loved ones and co-workers with a tattoo.

A remembrance ceremony will be held on the East Steps of the State Capital. The event will be presided over by Lt. Governor Mary Donohue and Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings and will have music, reflections on the victims and a brief interfaith ceremony. The “Wreath of Remembrance” will be presented at the ceremony. It will then become a permanent exhibit at the World Trade Center Exhibition.

There will be memorial ceremony in Amherst honoring the victims of September 11th. The memorial has a round seating area surrounded by a concrete ribbon path, a 60’ flag pole, and rubble with buried dirt from Ground Zero. In addition, there is a memorial grove with 120 trees dedicated to victims and organizations. The ceremony will take place at 3:00 PM to honor both the victims of 9-11 and the service men and women who are at war. The September 11 Photo Project This exhibition of photographs and personal statements was initiated in a SOHO gallery and is now on display at the New York Public Library through September 20, 2003. Additional material has been added to this exhibit. Fathers and Children: Loss and Remembrance, September 11th This exhibition offers reflections on a small number of fathers and sons who lost their lives in the attacks of 9-11 and others who were deeply involved in the effort to rescue and recover victims of the attacks. Its genesis was a series of ten emotionally compelling portraits of “firefighter dads” searching for their lost sons at Ground Zero. There will be other featured memorial materials. There is an ongoing special art exhibit at Mount Sinai’s World Trade Center Worker & Volunteer Medical Screening Program headquarters celebrated the spirit, generosity, and rejuvenating power of New Yorkers. Intrepid Remembers 9/11
An exhibit dedicated to the heroes and victims of September 11th. It is located at the Intrepid Hangar Deck, Pier 86, 12th Avenue, and 46th Street. The hours are 10:00 AM – 5PM (Tuesday – Sunday) and costs $13, $9 for Seniors, Students, Veterans and US Reservists, $6 for children ages 6-11 and free under 2.
