by Michael Kane (Kane & Salem) -October 9
Wednesday, October 8th, over 150 people came out to see Death Pool, TIMBER!, Man in Gray, Bedouin Thieves, Ghost of Lester Bangs, and Aqui at Luxx in Brooklyn, NY for BANDS AGAINST BUSH. The ANTI-BUSH Culture has become commonplace throughout New York.
Deception Dollars tipped the bartenders all night while beautiful women seemed to be the norm. The first group I caught was TIMBER!, a “low-fi Brand X”, which was a 70’s fusion group with Phil Collins on drums. All the bands rocked; it was amazing to see so many out for Wednesday when another BAB event was coming in just 3 nights.
Saturday, October 11th marks the International Day of Action organized by BANDS AGAINST BUSH. Over 20 cities across America and Europe will be in Sonic-Solidarity against Bush. The line up in NYC includes Semiautomatic, the Double, Celena Glenn + Victory Riot, Tomorrow’s Friend, Langhorne Slim, Juan Guerrero (the Victoria Lucas), Danny Kelly, the Lonely Samoans, Gina Young, and more at the Knitting Factory.
Definitely bring disposable capital to the show this weekend for some Christmas shopping – the best product I saw last night was the “Lick Bush in 2004” t-shirt.
Candice Vance is the heart of the NYC B.A.B. chapter www.babnyc.org. The national website is http://www.bandsagainstbush.org. Sonic Youth, the Donnas, the Liars, the Locust and Erase Errata are among those who have pledged support to BAB.
BAB comes right as there is a slew of progressive hip-hop on the market. I wonder when TIMBER! will do a show with PARIS?
The ANTI-BUSH Culture continues to grow…
