Either that or more TAX CUTs for the rich?Catastrophic" events imminent regarding North Korea: RussiaA top Russian foreign ministry official was quoted as saying in Tokyo that a "catastrophic" development of events in the US-North Korean nuclear standoff was imminent and could occur within the next day. "It is probable that, as early as tomorrow, there will be a catastrophic development of events," ITAR-TASS quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov as saying. FOREIGN Minister Alexander Downer plays down Korea fearsApril 23, 2003
FOREIGN Minister Alexander Downer has played down fears that a catastrophic development in the US-North Korea nuclear standoff was imminent.
"It is a very difficult situation," Mr Downer told ABC television tonight.
"This is the most serious security issue that faces the Asia Pacific region.
"I don't have a sense that anything dire is about to happen in the next day or two."
Mr Downer doubted that the Americans had taken to the talks a threat to retaliate if North Korea continues to produce plutonium at a nuclear reactor.

Important talks between North Korea and the United States are continuing in Beijing, with Pyongyang warning that war could break out at any point.
High-ranking officials from Washington and Pyongyang are meeting for the first time since the crisis over North Korea's nuclear ambitions blew up six months ago.
Those involved are refusing to indicate how the negotiations are going, and few commentators expect an immediate breakthrough.
In an indication of how far apart the sides are, Pyongyang's official news agency has released a statement warning that the situation on the Korean peninsula is so tense, war could break out at any moment.
The statement went on to demand the US boldly change its "hostile" policy towards North Korea.
"The US should show its political will to make a bold switchover in its hostile policy toward the DPRK and prove it in practice," the official Korean Central News Agency said.
