The Brick Brewery is a new brewery located in the beating and vibrant heart of Peckham South East London. This brewery has an air of mystery about it as it is quite a new brand. Therefore I took it upon myself to sample some of their offerings and share my thoughts with you. It is a hard job, but someone has to do it!
Who are the Brick Brewery?
At the moment the Brick Brewery currently produces an excellent core range of three beers. These are called the Pioneer IPA, Archway Steam and the wonderfully named Peckham Pils. Del Boy would definitely be proud of that one. What made me want to sample the Brick Brewery ales is that the brand is just so mysterious. I have been trying to do some research about these ale enthusiasts and falling flat on my face. All of the brewing delights are certainly a top secret which draws me in even more.
How Did I Hear About The Brick Brewery?
I first heard about the Brick Brewery brand through a company called The Beer Seller. This company sources the finest crafted beers in the UK. They taste every ale to check it is of superb quality before selling it on their website.
What I thought of the Brick Brewery ales:
Pioneer IPA: Overall very nice, good hops and a strong bitterness, the malts add a nice base. Very tasty and drinkable. A nicely done IPA that doesn’t overstep any bounds.
Archway Steam: The beer pours a deep amber and the nose is dominated by the malt; bready and cakey with a hint of citrus. On drinking it is wonderfully crisp and light with some bitterness, it’s biscuity with a decent yet very subtle citrus hits. It’s really incredibly drinkable, absolutely super.
Peckham Pils: A Czech style Pilsner lager using German noble hops for base bittering notes and Saaz hops for aroma. My pick of the bunch. Try it and see for yourself.
If you fancy being a bit of a beer taster yourself then make sure to follow my top ale tasting tips:
Check that the ales are both clear and bright in appearance in the glass unless it is specified as being cloudy.
As you drink check that there is a head on the beer. What is the texture, is it tight and creamy, or loose and foamy? In all instances the head should leave ‘lacing’ down the glass as it is drunk.
Glassware can affect the appearance, aroma and taste of a beer. A dirty glass causes the beer to lose its head. So if you are beer tasting take some precautionary measures.
If you’d like to try some ales for The Brick Brewery then head to The Beer Seller where you can mix and match your own crate so you can try more independent craft beers than ever before!
