The chairman of a powerful Commons committee has accused the government of denying it "decisive evidence" for its inquiry into whether evidence on Iraq's weapons was "sexed up". Donald Anderson made the claim to Foreign Secretary Jack Straw as he demanded the Commons foreign affairs committee be allowed to question the head of the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC).
The row centres on last month's BBC report that a senior British official had claimed September's dossier had been "sexed up" at Downing Street's request. Updated Story: The government has been accused of shifting its story over its claims that Iraq could launch weapons of mass destruction within 45 minutes. Conservative Richard Ottaway made the accusation after MPs questioned Foreign Secretary Jack Straw for a second time over the weapons row... During heated public exchanges on Friday, committee chairman Donald Anderson suggested the government was denying the committee "decisive evidence" for its inquiry.
