RALLY & MARCH FOR PEACE
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2002
10:00 AM @ DE LA GUERRA PLAZA IN SANTA BARBARA
Santa Barbarans Against an Escalated War On Iraq is joining with the
Coalition Against Militarism (made up of Green Party of Santa Barbara,
Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, Quaker Meeting and Women's International League
for Peace and Freedom) this Saturday for a PEACE RALLY & MARCH
Please note the different time, place and strategy (a compared to the past two Saturday's):
After an initial rally we will be marching up State St. to
Lois Capps' offices at 1216 State St. (the Granada Building). This event is directed toward strengthening the anti-war stand of our Representative Lois Capps. Each participant in the Walk will have an opportunity to write a brief note to Lois Capps, which will be delivered to her (or her aide) at the end
of the walk up State Street.
Lois still needs more nudging: the last meeting with representatives from the marches revealed that she is being cautious about taking a strong stance, wanting to "represent all her constituents"...she mentioned those in Santa Maria and Lompoc/Vandenberg.
This early hour will allow some people to participate in the rally & march and still get to the demonstration at Vandenberg Air Force Base by 1:00 PM.
The Vandenberg demonstration is part of an international demonstration against weapons and nuclear power in space on the same day. Vandenberg is the largest US space command facility in the world.
We need everyone who is concerned about the possibility of a war on Iraq and the militarization of our nation. In addition, we hope that those concerned about federal aid to education, housing, universal medical care and other needs of modern society will join with us in trying to stop this needless
waste of life, money, and energies in armaments and war. Please come and bring your friends. Peace IS making progress!
Last Saturday's rally was nearly THREE TIMES as big as the first, and the one this coming Saturday, Oct 5, can easily double that - but ONLY IF YOU ATTEND, help spread the word and bring your friends! The timing is crucial: ASAP -
our "representatives" will be voting in Washington very soon.
Exercise your rights to gather, to speak, to dissent. You are not alone!
For confirmation that we are not alone, check out this website:
http://www.warresisters.org/demos.htm
Bring your own banners, signs, noisemakers, drums, street theatre props, etc.
Spread the word: by internet, word-of-mouth, etc. - at your workplace, school, at parties, in cafes, on the street: everywhere! Make flyers and pass them on. Use all the media you can! Be inventive! Become Active! NOW!
The Grass Roots are alive and growing!

Date: Saturday, October 5th 2002 - Saturday, October 5th 2002
Time: 4:00 PM
Location: Washington, DC
Category: DU Gathering

Fellow DUers:
Hear, hear!
There are many of us near DC who have not met each other. The big event on March 15 is a long way away. I have been feeling a great desire to get together in person. I've talked with a few people informally over the last couple months. There appears to a critical mass. So here's a proposal for getting together:
Saturday in October
Start late afternoon
Central Location in DC
Easy Access by Car, Parking, Subway, Train
Food, Drink and Conversation
Info on Campaigns and Upcoming Protests
Please post yes/no if you're interested or have any suggestions for date or location, or any dates to avoid (other big event, for example). I've had some thoughts, but I want to see what others think, and hopefully get a core of interested people. Tomorrow or Friday I will confirm and propose specific date, time, and general area.
Hope we can pull this off. Cheers!
