Mohammed Atta - Slips Under Radar of 6 Countries?

Two years after 9/11 it becomes disturbingly apparent, that Mohammed Atta was under surveillance by at least 6 (!) different Secret Services.

Just how many of them monitored him 24/7, is not quit clear yet, but the evidence on how he was connected to other well known terror suspects, is compelling.

Most of these overseas countries, who monitored the official ringleader of 9/11, frequently updated the CIA on Atta, often with help of German Intelligence, but also contacted the CIA on their own.

The CIA officially never responded.

Germany

A fact which has been already revealed by various European papers, but is not well known in the United States, is that Atta was on the watch list by German Intelligence since at least 1999. This probably happened by coincidence.

While German Bundesamt fuer Verfassungsschutz (BfV) was observing businessman Marmoun Darkanzali, who they suspected of having ties with European terror cells, Darkanzali and Atta were becoming friends in Hamburg.

Atta was not alone on the watch list by German Intelligence.

Joint investigative reports said that in January 1999, Germany's security agency BfV first noted the name of a man named "Marwan" after he had placed calls with Haydar Sammar, a German-Syrian living in Hamburg, who had been under surveillance since 1993.

Two months later, in March 1999, the BfV passed the information about Marwan on to the CIA, which then also began keeping surveillance on him, ARD and Stern reported.

The reports said the CIA had detailed information about Marwan Alshehhi, and the fact that he was from the United Arab Emirates and studying in Germany.

The CIA had his cellphone number and knew that he was in contact with Haydar, whom the Americans had suspected of being al-Qaeda's contact man in Germany.

Also the German CIA-officer Thomas Volz, was monitoring the Hamburg Cell since at least 1999. He later tried to hire Marmoun Darkanzali as an informant.

Meanwhile also confirmed, yet another CIA-agent, David Edger, who later became a professor in Oklahoma, was tracking the German Terror ties before September 11.

It is not known yet, if Edger and Volz met each other in 2001.

Netherlands

According to many different Dutch papers and confirmed by German officials, there was a strong connection between an Eindhoven Mosque, the Hamburg Terror Cell and the so called Golden Chain - a sponsor ring of Bin Laden. As GFP found out, during the same week, 6-8 related connections with the Hamburg Cell attended one seminar in 1999. The Dutch Intelligence monitored these suspects and confirmed, that Atta was one of them. Marwan al-Shehhi and Ramsi Binalshibh also attended this same seminar.

Israel

Due to the BBC and other articles, also the Mossad observed Mohammed Atta. According to a report of the French intelligence agency which the German paper, Die ZEIT examined, a Mossad team was operating in the same town, where Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehi lived.

The Mossad-leader, Hanan Serfati, had rented several dwellings. "One of Serfati's apartments was located on the corner of 701st St. and 21st Ave. [sic] in Hollywood, right near the apartment of Atta and al-Shehi.", French intelligence reported later.

"The chief Israeli agent was staying right near the post office where the terrorists had a mailbox. The Mossad also had its sights on Atta's accomplice Khalid al-Midhar, with whom the CIA was also familiar, but allowed to run free. The Mossad apparently warned their American counterparts several times about the terrorists, especially about al-Midhar. The American government later admitted that they had received such warnings prior to September 11."

Die ZEIT has learned that a few weeks before the attacks, Israeli intelligence gave US authorities a list with names of suspects who were staying in the US for the purpose of preparing attacks.

Apparently, this Mossad team was part of a 120-person espionage team. The Mossad cover was blown and they were then arrested, interrogated and subsequently deported.

But even without their spy ring, the Mossad tried to warn the United States. As late as August 24, less than two weeks before the attacks, another warning was wired. This was also confirmed by German intelligence, BND, who said that "terrorists plan to hijack commercial aircraft to use as weapons to attack important symbols of American and Israeli culture." The warning alert was passed to the CIA.

The warning was also passed to MI6. Israel issued a second warning some time later.

France

The French Intelligence not only knew about the Mossad operation, but also warned the FBI about Zacarias Moussaoui in August 2001.

One week later, the FBIHQ received an urgent CIA-cable about two other terror suspects, but no-one decided to look into the Moussaoui case.

Then there might be yet another connection to Mohammed Atta. According to the BBC, on September 8th, 2003, a Frenchman on trial over the Casablanca suicide bombings claimed, that he has worked for French intelligence.

This man is Pierre Robert.

Robert, said a French secret service agent known as "Mr Luc" first approached him to recruit him five years ago, and paid him for his services.

"I was contacted at the time of the (football) World Cup in 1998 by the DST to conduct inquiries into Algerian Islamist networks in France, and I did that," Mr Robert told the court in Rabat.

This could match with a confirmation by Jean-Jacques Pascal, head of France's DST counterintelligence agency.

Already in September 2001, DST Chief Pascal confirmed in an AP + Reuters Report, that the DST had indeed issued a warning as far back as 1998 about "European al-Qaida cells".

Pascal said, that a number of "neo-Afghans," or Algerians who trained in Afghan terrorist camps, had resettled in Europe.

One of the French suspects was Abdelkader Tcharek. He reportedly met with Mohammed Atta in 2001 in Spain.

Spain

As already learned above, Spain also knew of Mohammed Atta.

Not only the Spanish Intelligence, but also the Spanish police, who were monitoring one of Atta's companions, Marmoun Darkanzali, who was on the watch list of both German Intelligence and the CIA.

In fact, the German CIA officer, Thomas Volz, had even attempted to hire Darkanzali as an informant in 1999.

Abdelkader Tcharek, another contact person of Atta,  was "also suspected of providing logistical support to Mohamed Bensakhria, a bin Laden deputy."
Tcharek was arrested in June 2001 and extradited to France.

Spanish authorities stated that Bensakhria was also connected to six Algerians who were arrested in Spain on September 26, 2001.

Spanish Intelligence has never revealed, how they were so successful in apprehending all these suspects, only 2 weeks after the attack on the U.S.

The Algerians were on charged with being members of the armed Salafist Group for Call and Combat. This Salafist Group was on the U.S. State Department's list of organizations linked to Osama bin Laden.

In November 2001, the Spanish police arrested 11 members of yet another "terror cell".

At least 7 names were mentioned in the press:
Luis Jose Galan Gonzalez, also known as Yusuf Galan (trained at a camp run in Indonesia in July 2001), Jasem Mahbule, Bassan Dalati Satut alias Abu Abdo (authorities said he "ran training camps in Afghanistan" and was "pro-Basque independence party Herri Batasuna", which is linked to the armed separatist terrorist group ETA), Osama Darra ("ran an electronics store in Spain, used in laundering money"), Mohammed Neetl Acaid, Said Chedadi, and Mohammed Zahir Asade.

Name No.7 was Contact No.3 of Atta:
Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas, who was "leader" of this cell.

According to an AP-Report from December 2001, Spain tied Yarkas to Marmoun Darkazanli, who is from the same home town of Aleppo, Syria.

Darkanzali and Atta knew each other from Hamburg and apparently Atta knew also Yarkas:

Yarkas' Madrid phone number appeared in an address book found in Atta's Hamburg apartment after the attacks.

According to the indictment against Yarkas, he "traveled 20 times to Britain and visited Turkey, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Indonesia, Malaysia and Jordan as part of his recruitment drive".

Yarkas operated as "recruiter" also under another name:

Abu Dahdah.

Spanish police said "Abu Dahdah's role was to recruit young Islamic activists for training in camps in Afghanistan and other countries". Among his contacts were Mohammed Atta and Mohammed Atef, bin Laden's military chief.

Spanish authorities had been monitoring Abu Dahdah for several years. He was believed to have traveled throughout Europe, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Thus we can conclude, that the Malaysian Intelligence Service had also picked up Dahdah's tracks.

And now it becomes interesting. On September 7th, 2003, Australian Intelligence confirmed to *Australian Sunday, that they have known for three years that Abu Dahdah, still in a Spanish prison, had been in contact with two Australian Islamic leaders Sheik Mohammed Omran and Bilal Kazal (Belal Khazal).

Omran meanwhile insists in some interviews, he is no terrorist. Same to Khazal.

* The Article was later updated and added with more information. In September 2003, ABC News also cited "Spanish court documents", which "repeated contacts between Abu Dahdah and both Melbourne man Sheikh Mohammed Omran and Sydney man Bilal Khazal."

Yet it was not until  March 2003 (!) when Prime Minister John Howard finally conceded that it took "until this week" for Australian Federal Police to formally request to interrogate AQbu Dahdah aka Yarkas just one day before the ABC blew the lid on the existence of Spanish court documents linking Dahdah with the Australians.

In March 2003, Australian Sunday revealed that three people associated Sheik Omran's group had been to terrorist training camps overseas.

Documents show Abu Dahdah, who has been linked with Jemaah Islamiah in Indonesia, made regular phone calls to both Sheik Omran and Bilal Kazal.

But Dahdah was also well known by the intelligence services of Britain, Belgium and Germany.

Britain knew Yarkas' aka Dahdah's contact person, Muslim cleric Omar Mahmud Othman aka Abu Qutada, who ran a London mosque.

The latest infos about Dahdah aka Yarkas are quit disturbing. It seems, that he was also part of a plot:
“What they’re accusing him of makes no sense. The evidence is so flimsy” said Barakat Yarkas’ wife, Maria Luisa Martin, speaking from her Madrid home in September 2003.

But besides Dahdah we have also another famous Malaysian intelligence "observation":

According to the CIA, Terror Suspect Riduan Isamuddin, also known as Hambali, ordered one of his deputies to host meetings between two eventual Sept. 11 hijackers, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, and another high-ranking al-Qaeda figure, at his apartment in Malaysia in January 2000.

The same two suspects were on the watch list of the CIA. According to DER STERN, agents of 8 CIA-offices in Asia, observed the famous "Malaysia Meeting" on January 8th, 2001.

Italy

Mohammed Atta was probably not yet on the watch list of Italian Intelligence, but the Italian police were familiar with yet another "buddy" of his:

Essid Sami Ben Khemais, a burly Tunisian known as ''the Saber.''

Italian prosecutor Stefano Dambruoso has said Ben Khemais was sent from Afghanistan to supervise bin Laden's terrorist operations in Europe. He is considered a high-ranking bin Laden associate who Spanish officials say met with Atta in Spain weeks before Ben Khemais was himself arrested, in May 2001.

Italy was one of the most concerned of the European countries. After 9/11, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Gianfranco Fini revealed on Italian television that they had received warnings before the Genoa Summit in Summer 2001.

"Many people joked about the Italian Intelligence Force," Mr Fini said. "But actually they had information that in Genoa there was the hypothesis of an attack on the American President with the use of an airplane. That is why we closed the air space above Genoa and installed anti-aircraft missiles.

At the Genoa Summit, the security measures had been increased:
"...Up to 20,000 police and military personnel are involved in the security operation"

So far, we have seen that Atta was linked to many suspects, who are connected to the following *countries:

Turkey, Britain, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Indonesia, Malaysia, Syria and Jordan.

Unconfirmed yet is, if Switzerland was informed about Atta.
According to documents by U.S. government investigators Atta was in Zurich on July, 7th, 2001.

* One word on the famous "Czech observation", which seems to be a political disinformation:

The US governement has no record of Mohammed Atta leaving and re-entering the US in April 2001. They also were unable to locate a plane ticket that would have been used Mr. Atta to fly between the US and the Czech Republic. The Czech Secret Service BIS would have been Country No.7, who had Atta in their database before September 2001.
However we can assume, that the "Iraqi hawks" in the United States wanted to use this meeting as a pretext for attacking Iraq as part of Bush's war against terrorism and "Atta" was someone else.

We can assume, that some of these countries received backup-info about increased "recruitment movements" in Europe and Middle East. Some of them were able to connect the dots and therefore warned the United States, either alone or with help of friendly agencies:

Already in 1998, Lt.General Abdullah (retired) Mahmud Hendropriyono of Indonesian Intelligence BIN warned the United States that "Osama bin Laden was plotting" an attack.

Jakarta passed the information to Washington but US officials did not believe it was credible, intelligence chief Hendropriyono told The Associated Press.

During Summer 2001, Jordan, and Morocco, with some certainty, advised US and allied intelligence that "Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda terrorists were preparing airborne terrorist operations in the continental United States". (Source: CSMonitor )

Egyptian intelligence warned American officials about a week before Sept. 11 that Osama bin Laden's network was in the advanced stages of executing a significant operation against an American target, President Hosni Mubarak said.

Britain gave President Bush a categorical warning to expect multiple airline hijackings by the al-Qaeda network a month before the September 11 attacks.

Another intelligence warning was even wired by the Taliban of Afghanistan: the Taliban Minister Muttawakil warned the US Embassy in Pakistan, who alerted the US State Department. "Weeks before the terrorist attacks on 11 September, the United States and the United Nations ignored warnings from a secret Taliban emissary that Osama bin Laden was planning a huge attack on American soil."

There were many more warnings, dozens have already been confirmed by the 9/11 Commission, but the White House did never respond to any of the Intelligence Warnings.

To claim, the 9/11 attacks have been the result of "incompetence" is bogus. The U.S. Intelligence and the FBI had long been monitoring most of the official hijackers and their related contacts. Many key intelligence witnesses have still to testify, some of them we mentioned above:

Cofer Black, Dale Watson, David Edger, Thomas Volz and many others.

The U.S. Military also organized 10-12 terror mock scenarios between 2000 and 2001. Training with no prior knowledge?

Among them a few war games or the crash of some planes into a miniature Pentagon in Winter 2000.

These are all facts, which got still ignored by a US Media, which is still not willing to connect the dots, but yet is constantly reacting with pseudo-patriotism and insults, every time someone who has more guts, for example, former US Congress Woman Cynthia McKinney speaks up.

In another case, the US Congress and the US Media have totally ignored former British Minister, Michael Meacher, who has accused the U.S., of purposely allowing the attack to happen to suit their agenda on waging a war about oil.

Furthermore, after two years, it strongly appears, that 9/11 was an inside job. Too many unsolved questions about unexplained collapses of WTC 7, 2 and 1 and the Pentagon, smack of an additional script.

Independent 9/11 researchers teamed up in a worldwide correspondence network, also the 9/11 Scientists became more self-confident and 9/11 Activists are talking already about the "next level".

Many state, that the real suspects are connected with a controversial think tank named PNAC which is sponsored by key leaders of the oil and the weapons industries.

Who really framed the United States?

Some inside officials knew the date of the attacks.
On September 10th, 2001, as MSNBC revealed, the Pentagon was on High Alert.

Who exactly sabotaged the United States within the Pentagon and CIA and allowed the attack happen on purpose?

We might find an answer at the U.S. State Department:

On September 7, 2001, they issued a "worldwide caution" which said:
American citizens may be the target of a terrorist threat from extremist groups with links to Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda organization.

The U.S. attacks have not only changed themselves, but they have also changed the world. Now is the time, that yet another change has to come - with answers and the truth.
