David Kay's report on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, or lack thereof, was obviously a disappointment to President George W. Bush. But some weapons of mass destruction have already been found, here at home, and they have killed Americans. Yet the Bush administration is much less interested in the search for those weapons and the unknown evildoer who used them - and for future weapons of the same lethal sort.

Two years ago this month, even as America was still reeling from 9/11, the nation was further shaken by the letter-based anthrax attacks aimed at six different political and media targets. Those attacks - envelopes filled with bacterial spores - left five people dead and 17 sick.

Now author Leonard Cole of Rutgers University has come forward with a new book, "The Anthrax Letters: A Medical Detective Story," which offers us a wealth of detail on the case - even as it reminds us how little we know.

One man, Steven Hatfill, a former bioweapons researcher for the U.S. Army, was named as a "person of interest" by Attorney General John Ashcroft. Hatfill has denied any involvement, and has never been charged. Indeed, just last week the director of the FBI's Washington field office expressed regret that his superiors in the Justice Department had put Hatfill in the spotlight.

Yet, even as G-men seemingly back away from Hatfill, author Cole is concerned that the U.S. government is still looking for an American Psycho who fits its profile of a germy loner. As Cole puts it: "By zeroing in on the single lone misfit theory, we missed the opportunity to explore links to other nations and other programs experts." The problem, Cole continues, is that the technology for developing anthrax and other biological weapons is relatively inexpensive, and the human expertise is equally easy to obtain.

On July 25, 2001, hijacker Ahmed al-Haznawit was treated at a Florida hospital for a lesion on his leg which researchers believe may have been cutaneous anthrax. Further, Cole said, two of the 9/11 hijackers held subscriptions to the tabloid newspaper Star, which is published by AMI.

...The man also sent a hoax letter to the US Senate from Britain and may once have worked in the laboratory to which his letters were sent for testing, said Barbara Rosenberg, director of the Federation of American Scientists' chemical and biological weapons working group.

Quoted in the Trenton Times of New Jersey - based in the town to which most of the genuine anthrax mailings have been traced - Professor Rosenberg said that investigators had interrogated the suspect twice since October.

"There are a number of insiders - government insiders - who know people in the anthrax field who have a com mon suspect," she said in a speech at Princeton University.

"The FBI has questioned that person more than once -so it looks as though the FBI is taking that person very seriously." She referred several times to a potential perpetrator as "he".

...Prof Rosenberg said the evidence she had pointed to a man who might have worked at the US military laboratory at Fort Detrick, Maryland. He would have been vaccinated and would have access to clas sified information about modifying the spores to make them stay airborne.

"We can draw a likely portrait of the perpetrator as a former Fort Detrick scientist who is now working for a contractor in the Washington DC area," she said. "He had reason for travel to Florida, New Jersey and the United Kingdom." She added that he had probably made the anthrax himself. "He grew it, probably on a solid medium, and weaponised it at a private location where he had accumulated the equipment and the material."

Leonard Cole tries to tie the Sep11th attack with the Hijackers, but the FBI tried the opposite 2 years ago?

Why?

Obviously they got some order from "above".

In 2001, it was too early and risky for a political spin (only Richard Perle tried it), but even in 2003 this could dramatically backfire -because this "October Surprise" was homegrown:
It came from Fort Detrick.

Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein had definetely no chance to get it from there. The question remains: Who had?

...In 1998 four different teams started a pattern of impacting events:

1) The Department of Defense (See DoD) started to plan the war (->) against Afghanistan (ed: ...and PNAC scripted against Iraq).

2) Anser and other related scientific thinktanks developed the idea of a Homeland Security.

3) The consulate in Jeddah (which was secretly run by the CIA, confirmed by former employee Springman,J.Michael let the first "hijackers" into the country. They were being monitored after a while.

4) The pharmaceutical company Bioport received a 3-year contract by the DoD to develop vaccines against anthrax.

The FBI's biggest anthrax suspect, Stephen Hatfill, in 2002, was connected with Sep11th related individuals and companies like Battelle, Jerome Hauer, Porton Down, USAMRIID and Dr. Thomas Inglesby (Johns Hopkins Institute) , who claimed, that in June 2001 one of the hijackers was infected with cutaneous anthrax. In May 2002, Inglesby released a memo on the infection, which was based on a undocumented diagnosis by Dr. Tsonas, Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. In October 2001, the FBI showed up at Tsonas with some photographs and a prescription of an antibiotic, they claimed, it was traced back to him.

Tsonas then identified Ahmed Alhaznawi (who officially died on Flight 93), but denied this later. As reported, Alhaznawi and other hijackers lived and attended a flight school near the Boca Raton headquarters of American Media Inc., where the first anthrax case surfaced. Alhazmi and Siad Jarrah (who still received a FAA newsletter in 2002, according to the landlord, Charles Lisa) lived in the same apartment together.

Another bizarre coincidence is, that Hamza Alghamdi ("WTC-south tower") rented in August 2001 unit 1504 at the Delray Racquet Club, 755 Dotterel Rd, which originally was owned by Gloria Irish, the wife of Editor Michael Irish of the Sentinel Sun, where first anthrax victim Bob Stevens worked. Once again, the apartment's landlord was Charles Lisa.

One might think, it was just a copycat: Someone with advanced knowledge of the Sep11th attacks knew about the whereabouts of the hijackers and tried to blame the anthrax attack on them. However the question remains open, how it was possible to organise the apartments for them, which seemed to be so strongly connected to first anthrax victim Bob Stevens.

And who exactly had prior knowledge, even on date and time of the attack? Was that the same connection, who told the White House on Sep11th to take the anthrax vaccine CIPRO? Larry Klayman of judicial watch (->) seems to believe this: "We believe that the White House knew or had reason to know that an anthrax attack was imminent or under way," Klayman said. When the New Scientist-article traced the spores back to FortDetrick and its content became more popular in late October 2001, the hijacker-connection was immediately and dramatically altered by both FBI and the US government (and still repeated in May 2002 by FBI Director John Collingwood). This brought many 911 Skeptics to the conclusion, that both attacks had been part of the same original blueprint, only "something went wrong". However in this scenario, the muslim terror connection around Bin Laden, no longer made sense.

In October 2001, the CIA and many other authorities like Jerome Hauer (->), Woolsey,James, Perle,Richard suddenly speculated on an anthrax terror-connection to Iraq, which didn't really fit, as already found out by the FBI. (Instead they started to interrogate some employees at Battelle->).
