Lieberman, Dean call for CIA director's resignationSF Chronicle (AP) - July 16 2003
Two of the Democratic presidential candidates called for the resignation of embattled CIA director George Tenet on Wednesday as the rest of the field faulted President Bush for misleading the public about Iraq. "The president has to accept some responsibility," Joe Lieberman told supporters during a campaign appearance. "This president seems to be saying, 'The buck never stops here."' ...Lieberman's rival, Howard Dean, said he has maintained for several days that Tenet should leave..." Related Articles: Senators press Tenet on Iraq intelligence By Ken Guggenheim, Associated Press 7/16/2003 16:23 WASHINGTON (AP) Senators pressed CIA Director George Tenet on Wednesday about whether President Bush's use of false information on Iraq's weapons program was the result of an isolated error, deeper intelligence problems or political manipulation. Tenet appeared behind closed doors before the Senate Intelligence Committee five days after he took responsibility for allowing Bush to include his State of the Union speech a claim that Iraq had sought uranium in Africa. That claim was apparently based on a series of forged documents, purportedly from Niger. Tenet did not speak to reporters as he entered the hearing room.
