Operation Homeland Resistance Protest Day 3

On Wednesday, May 7, 2003 Operation Homeland Resistance carried out it's third consecutive day of civil disobedience at the Jacob Javitz Federal Building at 26 Federal Plaza. 20 people took part in Wednesday's action. Fifty protestors were arrested on Monday. Another 30 protestors were arrested on Tuesday. As of 3:15pm EST everyone arrested from day one and day two has been released.

A Press Conference is scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 12pm at 100 Center Street in Manhattan.

Operation Homeland Resistance was a call to action from May 5-7 to bring attention to war and occupation abroad, as well as a "war at home" against immigrants, people of color, and the poor. Despite President's Bush's declaration that war is over, Operation Homeland Resistance declared that the war against people of color had only just begun.

Initiated by NYC people of color community and immigrants rights groups, the overwhelming majority of arrestees were women. A high percentage of protesters came were from the lesbian, gay, bi and trans movement.

In addition, the actions drew a very positive response by onlookers, particularly, the hundreds of people waiting in line to go into the INS building itself.

The next call to action is for May 19, where rally and march are planned for Times Square at the military recruitment center. On this day, organizers will conduct a "Day of Recruitment for Justice" where community people will be drafted and inducted to participate in the new movement for peace and justice as opposed to military recruitment.
