Congress needs to put President Bush and his Iraqi policy under its microscope to see if he misled Americans before sending troops into "this unprecedented, unprovoked, unilateral" war, Rep. Nick Rahall said Monday. Rahall, D-W.Va., wouldn't say if he felt Bush lied about reasons for the conflict, but added his voice to a growing choir demanding a congressional inquiry, and suggested the president might have made up his mind to wage war the first day in the White House.
"I'm not in position to say he lied because that's why I think an investigation should be conducted," the 3rd District congressman said, shortly before taking part in a reading exercise with students at Coal City Elementary School. "I don't know where it will lead. That's up to the investigators, but certainly there should be an examination of the intelligence trail." Rahall emphasized a president scrutinizes every detail of his State of the Union speech before delivery.
